Sew.... a little glamour with Jacquard waistcoats anyone?

Jacquard is the term given to a programmed weaving pattern where each thread woven on the warp is raised individually of the others to give it its elaborate pattern instead of printing on the fabric.  In other words the pattern is created with yarn dyed thread rather than the pattern being printed onto plain fabric giving it a much more luxurious feel as well as adding durability to the cloth. The colours used could be tonal as in the pic below or contrast as in the pic below that.  Which do you prefer?

The method was invented by Joseph Marie Jacquard (1752-1834)  It refers to the control method used to raise the threads and can be used both for woven and knitted fabrics.

Brocade and damask are derivatives of the jacquard method of weaving.  Brocade is great for using on fancy waistcoats for weddings or hotel staff where a shot of patterned colour  would add glamour and class to any occasion not to mention the obligatory damask tablecloths for the occassion.....keeping all the fabrics together for the same function!

I love jacquard jerseys too, their intricate patterns adding depth and detail to any wardrobe.  For the bold (and the beautiful) a jacquard dress by Missoni would make a stunning statement....

Neo CCS....corporate uniform with so much more flair!
